You know insanity is often defined as something you do over and over again and expect a different result. I can honestly say that I may be insane. You know what I did? I opened a studio in downtown Lethbridge. What the hell was I thinking? I have spent a whole bunch of money and got it looking really great and everyone that comes to visit just does that… visit. LOL
So what was my thinking behind this, you ask? Well, there is nothing I enjoy more than taking pictures of people. The new studio is dedicated to doing just that and specifically headshots and corporate portraiture. The work I have been able to produce is good according to my friends and other pro’s that have seen it and I think there is a need to get the word out to everyone that you can upgrade from the amazingly poor images that people take with their cell phones as selfies. I offer real headshots and portraits that promote the look you really need to to present yourself to people either through websites, promotional pieces, business cards or as prints on your office lobby wall.
Other things I’m doing is updating my fine art landscape and other work for the general photographic market suitable for posters or fine art prints. I also am doing restorations from old images that have faded or are on black and white or colour film and bringing them back to life again with prints or digital files.
And finally I have started to teach again. I have just signed up to do two courses at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden in the fall and winter. I love doing that kind of work. It is satisfying and it gives me a chance to examine my own workflow and techniques and to cull the stuff I don’t need anymore and enhance the new and/or current techniques I have developed over the years.
So in a nutshell, I have decided to go full time into my photographic business again and make it work. As long as my health is good and don’t have too many problems it will be a good way to stay active and move on with my life. I’m really looking forward to it. What do you think?
